About Birchwood Archery

Faith. Focus. Flight.

Founded in 2023, Birchwood Archery (also affectionately known as Birchwood Bowbenders) was born from a simple but powerful vision: to bridge the gap between summer camp and everyday life by offering a Christ-centered archery program that extends the spirit of camp into the hearts of families and youth year-round.

What started as a small group of lessons on the grounds of Birch Bay Ranch, quickly grew into something deeper—a sports ministry that combines the focus of archery with the eternal truths of Scripture. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus, our “Faith in Focus” philosophy reminds our athletes that strength doesn’t just come from the draw of a bow—but from the posture of the heart.

Archery as a Spiritual Discipline

At Birchwood Archery, every arrow tells a story.
Every moment on the line becomes a moment of growth.

Through structured lessons, scripture devotionals, and skill-building challenges, athletes learn more than just stance and aim—they learn patience, resilience, humility, and trust. We use the rhythms of archery to teach about spiritual posture, keeping Christ as the center target, even when the world throws distractions off-course.

We believe in shaping not just skilled archers, but wholehearted disciples—campers and families who carry the light of faith into every competition, challenge, and moment of life.

A Ministry with Roots

Birchwood Archery is independently run by Sarah King, a long-time member of the Birch Bay Ranch family. Sarah first came to the ranch as a wide-eyed camper in the early 90s (1989–1995), later serving as a stamper (1994–95), staff member (1995–1997), and a dedicated volunteer through the 2000s. She returned to Birch Bay in 2013, continuing to serve faithfully ever since.

Her journey from camper to coach, from cabin to coaching line, is a testimony to the long-lasting impact of faith, mentorship, and the call to serve. Sarah brings decades of experience, not only in archery and youth development, but in building spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and spiritually grounded. With a blend of laughter, scripture, and well-aimed arrows, she strives to help today’s youth find their footing—one bullseye at a time.

About Birch Bay Ranch

Located just east of Sherwood Park, Birch Bay Ranch is a year-round Christian camp and retreat center nestled in the Alberta countryside. Since 1960, it has welcomed thousands of campers, families, and youth groups to experience God’s creation through horseback riding, high ropes courses, ziplining, archery, worship, and more.

Birch Bay Ranch exists to create life-changing encounters with Jesus Christ through adventure, relationships, and reflection. Birchwood Archery is proud to operate on its historic grounds, with the Ranch’s full blessing and support. While we are independently run, we are deeply grateful for the foundation and legacy Birch Bay Ranch continues to uphold.
